We just returned from two weeks in Italy and stayed at five different hotels, all of which were rated four stars. This hotel was the worst of the five hotels we stayed in and I don't think it deserves a four star rating. There were large black unsightly marks all over the walls in the room and a large puddle of water on the floor where the radiator was leaking. We were then moved to a smoking room even though we had requested non-smoking. On the third try we finally got a habitable room. Their incidental charges were much higher than the other hotels. Internet charges were 5 Euro for 30 minutes, compared to either free or 2 Euros at other hotels. My husband was charged 8 Euro for a draught beer, approximately $12, which was really out of line. The other hotels we stayed at had a mixture of Americans, Europeans, and Italians staying at the hotels, but this hotel seemed to be primarily Americans. The hotel had absolutely no charm unlike the other four star hotels we stayed at, and the front desk staff wasn't cordial and welcoming as we experienced at the other hotels in Italy. On the plus side, there was a nice continental breakfast included, and the location was convenient to the train and bus stations and walking distance to all the sights. However, the convenient location didn't make up for the lack of charm and condition of the rooms, and I would not stay at this hotel again.

This hotel is conveniently located - just a ten minute walk away from the train station and just steps away from the Duomo and other main attractions in Florence (well, Florence is a relatively small city and everything is within walking distance). Hotel room is clean. However, I expected the reception staff to be more friendly and accommodating - they would answer your questions but I felt they are somewhat annoyed by the questions a normal visitor would ask. Internet is free but you need to buy the cable for EUR3 as there is no wireless connections at the hotel rooms. Overall, the hotel is ok but I wouldn't stay here again and would not recommend this to my family or friends who intend to visit Florence.

We were pleased in every way with the Laurus al Duomo. It was extremely convenient in the heart of the city on the same street as the Duomo and still quiet and peaceful for sleeping. The staff was great helping us book dinner reservations and other questions. Don't miss the free breakfast on the rooftop patio. If you go with a car you should know that to park it for the day is an additional 30 euros per day which must be paid in cash to the valet.

The staff was very helpful, the room very clean compared to how European hotels can be. The bath room was like the bath rooms in the US which is what I booked the room for..........having seen Europeon bath rooms in my life. The location was spectacular. You could walk to the train, the Duomo, Ufizzi, David and just about everything. The prices were a tad high but because it is a big city and convenient to everything - I think you would pay the same in the US. Overall, we were extremely thankful. One should note that pre-June and post-Sept the a/c systems shut down from what we could tell just around 9 to 10 am and come back on around dinner time. If you sleep in it can be hot blow drying your hair. If we were up and out by 9 - no problem.

Good location. Room was clean but shower door leaked so we were always moping up water after showers. Breakfast was ok.

Very conveniently located near the train station and within walking distance to the famous Duomo, the Uffizi Museum, & the Galleria Academia & Statue of "David." They had a lovely top-floor outdoor terrace with a great view of the city. The hotel is handicap-accessible and the staff is multi-lingual and very friendly and helpful. The room was small, but adequate. The A/C was far below typical American standards for hot summer temperatures. The room decor and comfort of the bed were average, but the convenient location overcame the heat and other shortcomings.

Nice location - close to rail road station and, in general. in a walkable distance to a major historic sites in Florence.

This hotel was average as far as hotel rooms in Europe normally are --- small room with no view. But the location is great. It's very near the Duomo and within a 15 minute walk of all the major sites.

Very nice location. Nice rooms. Good size, clean. Close to everything..Sofitel was next door. Lobby looked better, but not sure about the rooms. Overall for the price I thought this was great. free wifi, free breakfeast(which was ok, not the best)

Hotel was in a great location between the Duomo and the train station. AC was fantastic and could be controlled in-room (many other hotels required you to contact reception to change it). Great terrace on the roof overlooking the Duomo for breakfast and aperitifs.

Ideally situated to explore Firenze and the rooftop breakfast is a great start to the day

Very conveniently located about 1 min from the Duomo, 4 mins from Santa Maria Novelli Station and 30 seconds from Via Tourabuoni. Recent refurbishment has resulted in tastefully modern rooms with superb air con and very effective triple glazing. Communal areas are similarly clean and the adjoining cafe is quite good. Wi-fi is only available in the foyer and although free is unreliable. There is also one computer (again in the foyer) but this costs 5 euros per half hour... Service was a bit hit and miss; slightly frosty to begin with but warmed up towards the end of the stay. Concierge proved surprisingly effective at booking things when prodded. Breakfast is 15 euros per head if not included Iron has to be borrowed from the concierges desk and the rooms do not contain a clothes line. Laundry service is reasonably priced and quite good

My mother and I traveled from London via Pisa airport and were delighted to find that the hotel is located 2 minutes from the bus/train station SMN. We were further delighted to find that 2 minutes walk in the other direction and you'd find yourself facing the Duomo. In addition to all the benifits of being able to step from the door of your hotel to the heart of the city, the hotel boasts a wonderful breakfast tarrace and bar on the 6th floor which boast some wonderful views of the Duomo. We found it a lovely place to start the day and nice for that afternoon coffee or aperitif before stepping out into the bustle of Florence to find some dinner. Our room was average in size and although the beds were hard we slept extremely well. The bathroom, typical of most Italian hotels, was pristine, new male and very, very clean. The rooms are air-conditioned and this has to be an ESSENTIAL if you plan to travel during July or August as we did. Breakfast was better than a lot of continental breakfast we had had particularly considering the small size of the hotel and there was a choice of fruit cold meats yogurt cereal bacon and eggs, pastries... or all of them. If you go expecting the ritz you'll be disappointed... but certainly one of the better 4 stars to be found in the city.

The location of the hotel couldn't be beat. It is an easy walk to the train station and even closer to the Duomo. Breakfast was standard fare and the views from the terrace are spectacular. The only drawback was that the room and hotel were very "vanilla" in charm. If you didn't know you were in Italy, you could have been in any mid-level hotel in the states.

As a couple in our 20s we travelled aroubnd italy and stayed in many hotels, this one was our favourite! So central, rooms were so clean and the breakfast area had amazing views as well as amazing food. I highly recommend staying here!

I would highly recommend this hotel because of the customer service, cleanliness, spaciousness of the room and bathroom, and the convenient location to major sites. Walking out the doors and seeing Il Duomo was a highlight every morning.

Very comfortable and spacious room within short walking distance of all centro attractions and termini. This was the only room in our two week stay in Italy that had a bathtub (4 other hotels had shower only). Breakfast was substantial. I would recommend this hotel to friends visiting Florence.

good central location, close to the train station and within easy walking distance of all the sights. rooms were very comfortable. breakfasts were good and served until 10:30am if you wanted a lie in. only critisism was the prices in the bar. 8 euros for a single glass of wine a bit much, but there are plenty of other options close by.

Great hotel. Clean and comfortable with a courteous staff and an excellent roof terrace breakfast. Easy to find from the rail station and close to the Duomo. Hard to ask for anything more.

We had a very pleasant 4 night stay at the Vivahotel Laurus Al Duomo!! It certainly exceeded our expectations! First of all, the location couldn't be better. Very close to everything! We were also impressed with the maid service (they made sure to stock us up on soap etc each day without us having to call in first) and the very clean room from the first day on. The breakfast was also wonderful! It was plentiful, with a great selection and lasted us for most of the day. In addition, we enjoyed sitting out on the terrace overlooking the city and the Duomo while having breakfast. We had a great time at the Vivahotel and would definitely recommend this hotel!! Note: It might be good to ask for a room that is not facing the street. We did so and were lucky to have a room on the quiet side.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel , the rooms where modern and clean. Breakfast covered all requirments plus the added bonus of being able to eat out on the sun terrace. The location of the hotel is fantastic you are in walking distance of all attractions and nice restaraunts. Would recommend this hotel to anybody going florence who spends most of their day out and about but when returning to hotel require a room which is clean spacious.

The hotel is beautifully kept, in great condition, and very good value for the price. Our room was lovely and even had a view of the Duomo (if you lean out the window enough!) as does the breakfast terrace. The only criticism would be the location on a busy road with constant buses and traffic, so that we were unable to have our window open. If you are looking for value in a central location, this is perfect, but it is not your traditional hotel in the quaint quiet backstreets of old Florence.

I spent 5 nights in this hotel whild on holidays in Florence. The location was super- central, very close to the station, almost beside the Duomo (Cathedral) and therefore within easy walking distance of all the tourist sights and shops. Service good, food plentiful and tasty, rooms spacious, well equipped and very clean. My room was a little dark as it faced an inner courtyard - but very quiet. Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Florence and I would stay there again

Traveling as a tourist often means facing compromises on comfort, value or convenience. This hotel allows you to escape the feeling that you're giving something up. The location is great, particularly if you are arriving by train. The room was spacious, particularly by European standards, and very well appointed. The staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient. When I return to Florence, I will definitely try to stay here again.

the hotel is easy to locate from train station and is in an ideal situation for visiting all areas of florence. A good breakfast was included.

This hotel is conveniently located in the historic, downtown region of Florence. The rail station, the Duomo and other points are interest are all within a 5 minute walk. I found the hotel staff very friendly and helpful. As for the rooms, the bathrooms were adequate and large. The fixtures were also modern. However, the hotel and room lacked a modern,updated decor. As a frequent traveler to Europe, I have found many other "4 star" in other European cities to be of much higher quality-- new decor, nice bed linens, and soaps/shampoos with multiple amenities. While there were multiple amenities in the hotel (i.e. internet access, a coffee/pastry restaurant, rooftop restaurant, friendly front desk) the hotel did not have a feel of a four-star hotel and was very dated.

Great value and unmatched location for this price point. Everything you're looking to see in Old Florence is within a 5 min walk. The room was very comfortable and clean.

The location is great, an easy walk to the Duomo, Accademia, Uffizi, Pitti Palace, etc. The room was small, but clean and well equipped and the bathroom was very nice. Breakfast on the terrace was wonderful for the view.

Nice hotel, well situated. Room was smaller than exepected for a 4* hotel and apart from breakfast meals were not available. Clean and friendly.

This hotel is a 5 minute walk from the train station and a 2 minute walk from the Duomo. The room was spacious by European standards. The lobby is outdated and nothing to write home about. There hotel only offers expensive internet access(5 euro's for 30 minutes), but there are a ton of internet cafes within 5 minutes. The breakfast was European continental, if there is such a thing. For the price and the location, the hotel was great.

The hotel was in a perfect location a few minutes walk from the Duomo and the shops!. The staff were friendly and hotel very clean. There isnt a bar as such they convert the breakfast room on the 6th floor and sell alcohol. There are lots of cafes and restuarants to chose from right by the hotel. There is a little cafe accessible via the hotel which sells cakes, coffee, wine which is open till late. Would stay there again.

If you are looking for a good 4 star hotel, this definately is not it. The entrance is shabby, the lifts and corridors are even more shabby and although the rooms are of a better standard, the overall impression of defiantely a low 3 star rather than 4. You have to queue for breakfast when the hotel is busy which is not good and although the terrace is nice( in the summer) it only fits a few tables. The reveiws which said that the staff were very helpful must have a completely different team to who was on duty during our stay. The front desk was very abrupt and not at all forthcoming wiith info or help. Having visted Florence a few times, this hotel was the worst of choices, if you are looking for a good hotel, try the Grand Hotel Minerva if they offering good rates...promise you its a much much better bet!

Very handy location for the railroad station, shopping and Il Duomo and all the other attractions in Florence. Try the rooftop for a glass of wine in the evening and let them put together a plate of cheese and meats to munch on - that was very nice.

This hotel has an outstanding location; 5 minutes walking distance from major attractions (Uffizi, Accademia and Duomo), as well as within 5 minutes of the train station. The hotel was clean, modern, and the staff was very helpful. Our price included breakfast and Internet, which enhanced the value. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone traveling to Florence.

The hotel was within walking distance of everything. Breakfast is on the top floor with wonderful views over the terracotta roofs lovely even in winter!

For the money spent the room did not meet our expectations at all.
