"Granvia"

"Convenience and comfort at its best"
We had a wonderful stay as the hotel is very conveniently located right above shopping mall, subway and bus terminal where we did all the sightseeing. Value for money ! Highly recommended.
"Convenience and Good Staffs"
The hotel is located in JR station of Kyoto you don't need to worry about you could be too late to transfer trains or tube. it's the most convenient hotel in Kyoto I think. The staffs are so lovely. It's worth to stay the hotel enjoying this beautiful city,Kyoto.

"Convenient and very comfortable"
My husband and I have been regularly visiting Kyoto now for many years. We have stayed in traditional ryokans before (which should be experienced at least once here) as well as more modern hotels. This time we stayed for 2 weeks partly for work and partly for a holiday and this is the most convenient location for those travelling on the JR pass. My […] husband had to travel to Nagoya and Osaka for work related visits and as it is right at the JR train station it was fantastically easy. Don't let the fact that it is at the train station put anyone off - the JR train station in Kyoto is an attraction in itself with interesting architecture, restaurants on the 10th and 11th floor of the Isetan annex (the food was very good, with a great variety to select from and reasonably priced - there were often queues of locals waiting for a table at the tempura soba place and the katsu place at the Cube), and good shopping. The bus stop right at the front of the train station have local services to most of the local attractions or subways if you prefer the trains. Usually we walked to Gion and downtown. Kyoto is a good place to base your stay in Kansai as Himeji, Osaka and Nara are good day trips away. If you can pay extra for the club rooms on the 14th and 15th floor facing north (Kyoto tower) the view is spectacular, the rooms are larger and you have access to the club lounge (tea and coffee all day) and a good fitness centre and pool. We were upgraded to this floor due to our long stay. Booking online - we got a great deal overall. My only gripes are that if you are staying in a standard room you have pay extra for access to the fitness centre (about 1000 yen per person), there is no WIFI access in the rooms (but available in the lobby and club lounge, lan lines in the rooms are free on the club floors) and breakfast (and the restaurants) at the hotel itself is a little pricey. As we usually like a simple breakfast anyway, cereal and milk can be bought at the local 7 eleven or the Leer más

"Great Stay"
Stayed for four nights in Jan 2012. Fantastic experience and would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Kyoto. Rooms were spacious and staff were extremely helpful. They also had a concierge service which we found very helpful. We also had some bags to send to Tokyo overnight and they seamlessly organised this - most the paperwork was […] completed for us and all we had to do was pay and drop luggage at reception. The amount charged was aroudn 1500Y for a 15kg bag. Great experience. Breakfast was a little pricey and thus we decided not eat at the hotels restaurants. There was also internet on the TV but was very difficult to use. Would also be great if the hotel had a wireless internet service. Other than that a great stay. Leer más

"Outstanding Hotel in Heart of Kyoto"
Brilliant hotel in all respects. Staff were wonderful, service in all departments faultless. Rooms are large, beds are large ('double' in Japan always has a queen bed). Directly over Kyoto Station (itself a landmark) is just so convenient. Just jump off your bullet train & follow the signs. Easy walking to many cool spots for shopping & food & local […] Temples & Shrines. Kyoto is just amazing. We had four days, could have had double. Still cool and funky like Tokyo, but not so intense I suppose. All the same department stores as Tokyo. Leer más

"Hotel Granvia - Kyoto Japan"
There is no other hotel I would recommend - as the Hotel Gravia is the central part of Kyoto - it's right above the train station and most easily accessible from the entire city. Also, we found that most people do not speak English in Kyoto - so it was easy enough to get cabs to drop us at the train station. The hotel has about 20 restaurants in it […] - do not eat in any of them - they are beyond expensive. A plate of spaghetti was $300 USD - for real. The bellhops were all women - which was AWESOME! The concierge was very helpful and suggested great activities in the nearby area. There is free wifi in the lobby and they provide traditional robes in the bedrooms. There is a charge to use the pool, which I thought was beyond ridiculous but we got a great great deal on hotels.com so it all balanced out. Sit in the lobby and watch businessmen bowing and exchanging well wishes post meeting - such an amazing piece of culture. Don't stay anywhere else. Leer más
"Beatufil convenient hotel"
We loved our stay would stay again only comment I have is the that indoor pool is not family friedly kids or only allowed in the am from 0700-0900. My kids were pretty upset when I told them they wer not allowed in the pool.
Excellent location, large room space.
"Great hotel right at Kyoto station"
Fantastic hotel for the money right at Kyoto station (it's actually connected to the station). Can't get any more convenient in terms of location since the JR lines stop right there and the subway picks up downstairs, too. The staff was very friendly and helpful (they speak English quite well) and the room amenities were great, too. Noise wasn't a problem […] at all, either, despite the proximity to trains and buses. Bottom line: can't go wrong with this hotel if you get it for a reasonable price. Leer más
"Hotel Granvia Kyoto- Excellent service"
We didn't expect to see red maple leaves in mid Dec but just before I set off to Kyoto, a friend told me there're still some temples with beautiful red leaves. I immediately email the hotel asking for help to provide info about these temples. I also asked for booking of the Sagano sight-seeing tram and boat ride. I got everything I need in 2 days. The […] info and condition of red maples in each temples was given and a map was also clearly indicate the location, route and transportation. The booking of tram and boat ride was also efficiently arranged. They even suggested the best option on tram and boat schedule to save our time. The English of the staff at Concierge was very good and no problem in giving detailed info. The only problem is the Concierge close at 20:00 so we could not get their advice when return after 20:00. We are very happy with our choice of this hotel. Leer más
"Over priced and underwhelmed, waste of money!"
This hotel is an ideal example of luxury without substance. The rooms are posh, but use of the hotel pool and sauna costs extra - a lot - per use, and there are no other on site fitness facilities. Make your own in room coffee costs about the same as a full latte from Starbucks - for instant coffee?! The hotels claim to fame is its many restaurants, […] but they are all outrageously over priced. You cannot get more than cereal in your room for less than a full lunch out. Furthermore there is no in room wireless. You can use it in the lobby but you have to retrieve a new key from the concierge every day. Also, be prepared to wear your money on your sleeve or the staff will be snooty and ask you if you are really a guest. Finally location - this is really a crap location in Kyoto far from the real city life. Go north to the city center and stay at hotel gimmond or okura or royal hotel and spa. I was very disappointed with my "luxury" stay at the granvia. Leer más

"Hotel Granvia Kyoto"
Nice room (large -- we had a superiod -- and quiet) and convenient location in main train station, but quite expensive. Request high floor facing the city and you get a nice view of the surrounding hills in the distance.
"Good Location but Not customer centric enough."
The hotel is supposed to be a hotel of world class status. While the facade is well kept and the location is very accessible (being located in the midst of the Kyoto Station), the staffs are surprisingly not customer centric enough. Most of the time, they do not understand simple conversational English and it's such a challenge communicating our questions […] and requirements to them. Our room is located next to the housekeeping room and every morning we could hear the loud banging of trolleys and moving of things around. We were shocked that our hotel room is not sound proof! We could even hear the conversations of other guests as they stepped out of their room and/or while they were waiting for the lifts! This is the first time, we stayed at a hotel where the hotel room is not minimally sound proofed and sounds were so audible. Housekeeping did not do a good job in the daily up-keeping of our room. The toilet seat was not thoroughly cleaned and sanitized around the grooves (which is quite inexcusable for a luxury class hotel. Given the room rates that we paid, we had our expectations). The room table tops were dusty and the hot water kettle was not cleaned (stains were found). There is a smoking room on level 3 on the banquet level of the hotel but the smoking room was only open and accessible to guests when the hotel has booked functions in the banquet halls. This is a hotel and Kyoto has a strict public smoking law. The smoking room should be accessible to all hotel guests. Why are the hotel room guests penalized and deprived of the accessibility and usage of the smoking room? I'm pregnant hence my husband and I stayed on the non-smoking room on a non-smoking floor but as guest to the hotel, my husband ought to have the accessibility to utilized the smoking room if he wishes to. The staff simply said "No. The smoking room is only for banquet guests. Not for hotel guests." This is quite simply ridiculous. The banquet guests could use the smoking room but the hotel Leer más
"nice hotel, conveniently located"
I liked this hotel since it's adjacent Kyoto station. The internet service was really slow. It's a huge hotel, so don't be surprised if it takes you quite a while to get to your room. Other than those two things...great hotel.
"Beautiful Kyoto and Great Place to Stay"
We stayed on the recommendation of a friend - easy to find on arrival by train - very comfortable room with an enormous bed and great views of the Kyoto Tower Hotel (best seen from the outside looking in). Good price, so excellent value for money. Kyoto is an elegant delight!
"luxurious and convenient"
Love this hotel. Service was great, location was great, and room was great.
"Kyoto Granvia - very convenient"
Hotel is at a great location. Room was quiet even though hotel sits directly above a railway hub. Bus terminal makes exploring the city easy and loads of taxis. Hotel lobby tended to be very busy with insufficient seating in case you need to wait for somebody. Large floorplate also means a long walk from room to elevator.
"Beautiful hotel, great value, perfect location"
Hotel Granvia is highly recommended. It's right at the train station, bus tours to all the sights go right from there, Shinkansen also goes right into the station. It's the perfect location to base yourselves in Kyoto. Staff is very courteous, English speaking, and they went out of their way to help us.
The location of this hotel at the station made it ideal for us. As well as being convenient for the Shinkansen, most of the public transport in Kyoto starts at the station. The hotel was very modern and stylish, with attractive foyer and and rooms. To get a non-smoking room we had to pay for a king-sized room, but the extra cost was worth it because […] we got a spacious well equipped room. with a nice bathroom. Staff were very helpful and the hotel had a good bakery in the foyer. The only downsides were that breakfast was not included and was expensive - we sometimes used Starbucks opposite, and you had to pay for the pool. Leer más

"Best Location Ever"
For the price of the hotel, it is a great place to stay. Not only the location is excellent, the room is decent in size (compared to those in Tokyo), clean, good layout, good facilities. First of all, the location is truly convenient, just a short walk away from the Shinkansen trains and right next to a major transportation hub to any destination in town. The staff are extraordinarily courteous and the facilities excellent. The concierges went out of their way to find out the information we needed, on several occasions. Finally, their […] flexible check-out is very convenient: settle the bill right after breakfast, then enjoy your room until check out time at noon. We will definitely stay here again. Leer más

"Hotel Granvia- excellent location"
Arrived from Tokyo on the Shinnkansen, hotel is right inside the station which was fantastic. "Well appointed and well located hotel in Kyoto"
Hotel is big and the facilities of a high standard. There is a wide choice of restaurants in the hotel. Staff were very efficient and attentive. Granvia floors (14th & 15th floors) have bigger rooms and access to a smart private lounge.
"Granvia. Kyoto"
Very good hotel and Outstanding service from the staff who could not do enough, even walking to the bus information office with us.. Only negative was it cost 10,050 yen for a swim!
"Swanky but clueless"
A great location and polished facilities only barely make up for the misdirected service of this acceptably nice hotel. This is a 5 star hotel with 3 star hotel service at best, with a thin veneer of class. Do yourself a favour and try a ryokan instead. I was in the hotel bar listening to a dreadful piano singer and a helpful American told me of the […] fantastic ryokan he went to which sounded much better. Of course, if you need a hotel near the station because youre going to Tokyo the next morning, this hotel is right on top of it. But there are plenty of hotels around the station. The poor service started with the TV system not working - calling someone up to help made it worse. After dinner, problem still hadnt been fixed - at midnight I had another person try to fix it, no good. In a 5 star hotel at midnight, if i want to watch TV you should be able to watch TV. Can I get ironing done? Yes of course, we'll do it. 5 minutes later, an iron and ironing board appear at the door, here is your iron, do your ironing yourself. No thanks, please take the ironing board away. Ironing board stayed in my room. At checkout, an expression of disappointment and list of grievances is met with a smile and the bill. Im sorry, I just wanted to talk to you about a few things that made my stay not comfortable. Ah yes just sign the bill please and goodbye. This wasnt a language barrier thing, this simply being treated like a western devil with the desire to not deal with problems. This gaijin will not be returning. Oh and I eventually found out the problem with the TV was the HDMI cable wasnt plugged in. If 2 hotel technicians cant figure it out, something is seriously wrong here. Leer más

We stayed in Kyoto initially because of the beauty of the city. However, because of its proximity by train to so many other areas we extended our stay and moved hotels to the Granvia. "Granvia Hotel, Kyoto"
Kyoto is jam-packed with things to see and do and there is nothing better than having a super hotel right above the train station/bus terminal at the end of the day. It was steps from the local buses and the ticket agent for JR. There was a huge variety of restaurants in very close range. The concierge was excellent re sightseeing advice, and the room […] was spacious and well appointed. "The hotel Granvia in Kyoto"
Nara and Kyoto are amazing cities and the style and comfort of the hotel Granvia simply amplified a wonderful experience. Everyone at the hotel was so polite and helpful and made us feel truly welcomed. However we couldn't afford to eat there but found great places nearby. "Hotel Granvia Kyoto"
Great central location right above Kyoto train station. The rooms are clean and much larger than expected for Japanese standards. The staff are very helpful and speak good English. I would totally stay here again if I return to Kyoto.
"A 5 star hotel for a two star price"
My wife and I booked into a drafty Ryokan in December and found it too cold to stay. We would have been happy with any modern hotel with rooms available, but the Granvia Kyoto exceeded expectations. Gorgeous decor, great swimming pool. I would return there in a second.
The Granvia Hotel in Kyoto-hotel experience was wonderful. We got a free upgrade to one of the deluxe rooms on the 15th floor. We had a beautiful view from the room. We highly recommend this hotel due to it's location. It's close to all the must-see sights. Trains and buses were easily accessible from Kyoto station.
this hotel is all about location, location, location. it is very convenient and being in the train station itself means savings on transportation costs to other locations accessible by train or bus. Room was surprisingly big; good value for money.
"Only for the great location"
The Granvia is very centrally located, being part of the Kyoto Station complex, which makes it very convenient when arriving from the Kansai International Airport and for taking a bus or train to visit Kyoto. The room are fairly small but offers all amenities for this type of hotel; odd-numbered rooms face north and would give a view of Kyoto Tower; […] also be aware that the higher the room number, the further away you are from the elevator, which can mean quite a walk given the hotel configuration. My grief with the hotel and the reason for the low rating in the quality of service was due to what I would qualify as the "greed" factor. We arrived very early, at 8.30 am, after an overnight flight from Hong Kong, so I asked whether a room was available for us immediately. The reception clerk replied that the hotel was full and that check-in is at 3pm (while check-out, by the way, is by 12 noon). As I insisted, he then found a room available for us but I had to pay an extra 50% of the room rate for the "early" check-in. So, a room was available, but they just had to get the extra income rather than offer the convenience to a guest with a confirmed reservation. Shameful, in my opinion. Leer más
