"very nice hotel doom room."
I found the decor to be less hip and more gimmicky and economical than advertised, but I would still stay there again. Friendly, helpful staff.
"Cozy hotel"
I like Tomo in general and would like it better if without a rude and unfriendly receptionist, whom we met with around 23:00 1/28/2012.
You should not charge customer $25/night for parking. If you have to, its should be HALFof that.

"Hidden Gem in Japantown"
I travel to San Fran 2-3 times a year for business and typically stay at one of the upscale, national chain hotels. This time, I was traveling with a colleague from another company who was on a strict budget, and he suggested the Hotel Tomo as a low-cost alternative. It turned out to be great. For me, business hotels boil down to 4 aspects: Internet […] availability, TV quality, room cleanliness/comfort, and breakfast. With free (and fast) internet in the room, lots of HD channels (including HBO), a comfortable bed and a spotless room, and delicious Eggs Benedict in the restaurant, I was 100% satisfied. A couple of things to point out: 1) Parking is available but limited. If you arrive in the late evening, you will not get a spot. 2) This is a no-frills place, so there's no concierge or bellman. They don't have shoe-shine, morning newspaper delivery, or any of those "extras" that the big guys offer. Just keep that in mind if those things are important to you. Leer más

"Hotel Tomo- very nice, in quiet neighborhood"
Located in a quiet Japantown neighborhood. Rooms are clean and updated with comfy beds and flat screen TV. Free internet. Reasonable fee for onsite parking. We experienced a noisy heater and since it could not be repaired immediately, they upgraded us to a larger room without hesitation. The staff is friendly and ready to please. Only thing we weren't […] thrilled with was the hotel restaurant , I would not recommend it. Our kid attends USF so we visit SF often and have discovered that hotels in SF are "hit or miss". This place was a "hit" . We will definitely stay here again. Leer más
"Hotel Tomo in SF"
Overall the hotel stay was very good and conveniently located. There were only a couple of things that were kind of below average...we had to frequently swipe the hotel key in the energy conservation reader to enable the electricity to the coffee pot to function; however, it kept turning off and we were never able to get a single cup of coffee made. […] The other issue was the hotel clerk on staff at approx 2am was very rude to us upon our return to the hotel lobby. We happened to be giggling about our evening and he yelled at us to keep it down. We were in the lobby at the time and had no intention of being disruptive to hotel patrons, so we were a bit annoyed about how he reacted when he saw us....whatever! Leer más
Very nice hotel. Anime theme was unique. Close to Japantown but a little far from downtown.

"Great Area and Terrific Deal"
Our room was comfortable and and clean although did show a little wear. It was in a great neighborhood, convenient for walking, and public trans, with a lovely Japanese walking mall across the street. The people at the front desk were very friendly and helpful, even welcomed my daughter with a little treat bag upon checking in. When I told my in town […] relatives my room rate and location they were very impressed! Leer más

"nice hotel, nice location, ..."
the hotel is good enough for anyone and its located in a nice neighbourhood. you can find everything near the hotel: convenicence stores, restaurants (asian-- lots of) etc. it is not near but you can go to golden gate, marina etc walking if you are in the mood.
"Clean, reliable, decent location"
Our goal was to become more familiarized with SF this trip, so location was important. There aren't as many things directly outside this hotel (other than touristy-japan-themed-shops), but it's only about a 20 minute walk to Haight, or a cheap cab, or easy Muni ride to where you want to go. We felt safe in the neighborhood, including at night. The […] hotel itself was eccentric, but clean. We liked it. Nothing about it grossed us out, or even came close. The staff was nice and accommodating, though we never really ask for much. There is a restaurant on the third floor, that looks promising, but we didn't have time to check it out. One issue about the 1st floor, is that if you're room is next to the employee only door at the end of the hall (take a right out of the elevator), you can hear the door slam as employees go in and out. "Hotel Tomo San Francisco"
This is a great hotel. It is clean and has a fun atmosphere. Many local attractions to choose from within walking distance. Short taxi ride or drive to downtown and the rest of what San Francisco has to offer. My only wish was that parking would have been discounted or included for guests of the hotel, but the price was not bad. The hotel's restaurant […] was very good, with fast and friendly staff. A different hotel and stay experience for anyone looking for that unique hotel. Leer más
"Excellent cozy little comforter"
I will stay in this hotel again. They also have a good service and friendly staff. Farideh
"Modern Japanese Dorm-Style"
I stayed four nights at this hotel and felt perfectly comfortable with the spacious room, modern decor and convenient location. It was close to Filmore street where restaurants were open late, you can take a stroll one block out to the Peace Pagoda and savor delicious Japanese restaurants. My only complaints were that the room was freezing and there […] was no comforter on the bed so I had to ask for an extra blanket. There are also murals painted the walls and the one in my room was particularly creepy, in a Japanese anime sort of way. Anyway, I would stay here again. It was a great deal. Leer más
"Enjoyed my first visit to SF while staying at Tomo"
We stayed in a king room for two nights at Hotel Tomo. This was my first time in San Fran and I really enjoyed my stay. The hotel was very friendly and clean. If you like anime or whimsical artwork, you will surely like all the murals and quirky interior design details. While this hotel is not located in what most people would consider the common "tourist" […] attractions, we loved Japantown and the many great Japanese restaurants surrounding it. There is also a nice open public park type of area right across from the hotel. If you do want to travel down to the bay, Union Square, or anywhere else in the city (we saw the entire city in just two days!), hopping on one of several nearby bus lines will get you there quite easily. "Excellent Hotel"
Great customer service, very modern hotel, love the location. Will stay again!
"very updated and comfortable"
Very neat and comfortable hotel. Beds are comfy, it isnt old and dingy like moat downtown hotels. The heater is a little complicated, u have to put yur key in the wall to adjust it. They give u nice bath products and room is equipped with a kuerig cofee maker. The area surrounding hotel was very clean and felt safe. Would definitely stay again if i […] ever go back to san fran. "very nice hotel,"
My family enjoyed the hotel very much and would highly recommend to all I know. I will always choose thus hotel when in the area. It is spacious and clean the staff were nice and helpful.
"Clean and convenient"
When we come to Frisco, it's not to enjoy the amenities of our hotel. That being said, Hotel Tomo is in a decent location, it was clean, and the staff was courteous. I'll stay again.
"Fun & Inspiring"
The hotel was fun, whimsical and enjoyable. Bright colors and anime artwork made the time there truly unique. Easy to catch the bus from near the hotel to access the city.

"Rude front desk attendants"
The front desk attendants were extremely rude and need to streamline their online business. They made us wait a half hour because they demanded 2 confirmation codes, while we only received 1 from hotels.com.
"Hotel Tomo - home from home"
The hotel is in Japantown, a safe, clean and central neighbourhood, just around the corner from Fillmore - a lively, great street and area, known for The Fillmore where every major 60s band played, eg Fleetwood Mac and now host to the best in music now. Hotel Tomo's staff are unfailingly helpful and friendly, even sending us a kettle and tea and fresh […] milk to our room as we're British and not morning coffee drinkers! They told us about restaurants, gave us directions and sorted out the shuttle for the airport. The room was large, immaculately clean and had every service we needed including an iron. The beds were great too. There was even a window seat and a table and chairs - really a perfect place. We will always stay here when in San Francisco. And amazing Thai restaurant with first rate delicious food, run by two sisters. It is just opposite Tomo's own restaurant, which we didn't try but looked busy every night. "Hotel Tomo"
The air conditioning was broken, the TV did not work nor the desk light, when asking the concierge about a tea shop she tried to look it up for us but did not tell us there were computers right around the corner in the lounge area to use. It was a good price for a clean and unique room.

"Great place to stay"
Everything was great about this hotel; location, staff, restaurant. It is centrally located in the city with public transportation access to everything. I would stay here again!
"Manga - lite"
The concept of this hotel is brilliant. Located far from the throngs of tourists in and around Union Square and the Tenderloin, the Hotel Tomo! (yes, with an exclamation point!) is set in the relatively tranquil environs of Japantown, right across a pedestrian mall and a block from a Japanese pavilion of shops and restaurants. From the outside, the […] hotel is nothing particularly special- a typical post-modern blocky structure typical of its time period (1960s). It goes without saying that once upon a time this was probably just another nondescript Best Western with popcorn ceilings and shoebox rooms. Rather than undergoing a costly gut renovation, it looks like they merely made lemons out of lemonade. So instead of fancy wood mouldings and ugly grasscloth wallpaper, they embraced the area's Japanese heritage and went with a Japanese Manga/pop-art motif, which involved the extravagant use of color and kitschy decor and artwork. For what it's worth, it all works beautifully! The knotty pine furniture, the day-glo chairs, the George Nelson hanging light fixtures, the modernist gray and yellow tones, etc. For someone trying to experience something more like the stereotypical Japanese experience, try going to the Hotel Kabuki a couple of blocks away. The Tomo! is for the young and for the young at heart. It is definitely one of the more unique hotel experiences you will ever encounter. Leer más

"Pricey for a Best Western"
The overall experience was pleasant but it was a bit too pricey for a Best Western. The room was unique with is Japanese "pop" feel to it. Our wall was painted in an art theme but again, it's a Best Western. Parking was easy for us but I think we were lucky. They have their own parking but space is limited. If there are no spaces left, they have another […] garage ... somewhere. Staff was friendly and helpful and room was clean. But I wouldn't want to come back just because it was really pricey. "Hotel Best Western Tomo"
The hotel accomodations were very good, the only thing that suprised me was the 25 dollars per day of parking fee. If they want guests to patronize their hotel were do they expect the guests to get there? Maybe they expect neighbors to occupy their rooms!
"Our Stay at Tomo"
I want to thank the people that write reviews because that's the only reason I stayed there. It was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.
"Hotel Tomo - more of the real San Francisco"
As well as it's well known proximity to Japan Town the Hotel Tomo is located a couple of short blocks away from what appears to be a real community in urban San Francisco. The Filmore Street area north of Sutter St has a nice vibe with real shops, cafes and restaurants that are not pre-occupied with pandering to the tourist but are there to service […] a hip local population.
