L'Auberge Del Mar - Destination Hotels & Resorts

My wife and I stayed at L'Auberge in January. The weather was perfect and the hotel was not crowded. We had a room with a small garden seating area, and would probably opt for a ocean view should we return. The rooms are very nice and comfortable will all the amenities. We did not use any of the resort facilities. However, I do wish resort hotels would prominently display the "resort fee" in the price for the room. Although only $14, I find it irritating to have to read the really small print to find this charge listed, especially and a relatively expensive hotel like L'Auberge. Further, there is no parking at the hotel except valet at $25/day. One day it would be nice to see the "fee" included in the cost of the room and disclosure of the parking situation. In order to enjoy L'Auberge Del Mar, you need to stay more than one night. Unfortunately, my wife and I only had a one night stay and were unable to take advantage of the spa or other facilities the hotel has to offer. We hope to return in the future for a longer stay.

Loved the hotel but be aware there is an additional $25 a day parking AND $14 a day resort fee, so you will be paying over and above your rate....$39 per day. Also the fitness room is below average...I have seen better fitness rooms in Motels!

If you're not picky, and you don't travel all that much, this hotel is a good choice based on location. But, on a service and amenities level, this is more of a 4 star property. Basically, if you want something, you have to ask for it. That includes help with your baggage, showing you to your room, maid service, turn down service, etc. They will help […] you, but only if you ask. I'm not used to that with a 5 star property. I travel extensively, and I typically stay at the Ritz or Four Seasons, this is not that kind of experience. The rooms are nice enough. Well appointed with plenty of space for your belongings. I was a bit put off by the fact that my room was so close to the fire pit/roof top area that I was practically in the middle of 2 weddings. It was awkward to sit on my balcony without feeling like a lurker. There was an odd smell on the second floor that was a bit like raw sewage. I have no idea what it was, but thankfully, that smell did not make it into my room so I was okay. The spa was top notch. I loved my treatment and my therapist. I would HIGHLY recommend the spa. The location of the hotel is amazing. It's close to some great restaurants, a gourmet market, and good shopping. Leer más

Stayed for four nights in June 2011. This was our second visit. First visit was about three years ago. I love this hotel and would have stayed longer if I had the time. It has all the amenities I prefer which include nice clean spacious rooms, great restaurant, a fitness room, tennis courts, short walk to the beach, shops and restaurants close by and […] even a small market across the street. I watched the sunset over the Pacific Ocean and was extremely content. I will stay no where else when in San Diego North County. I LOVED this hotel. The decorations are charming & inviting. Its honestly the cutest & most charming hotel I've ever stayed at. There are a ton of restaurants & shops walking distance away. The outside patio has a fire pit & water feature. The beach is maybe 2 minutes away. The beds are soft & inviting with a stylish duvet on the down comforter and […] a fortress of pillows. The rooms even come with a mini keurig complete with coffee, decaf coffee or tea options. No detail was missed in designing the hotel. I normally stay at Westin or Ritz hotels. Acoustics in Room 119 was terrible. There was no insulation between the rooms, especially through the shared room doors. There were noisy people in next room and you could "partake" of the conversation as if you were both in the same room. Unfortunately, they decided to have a party all night. Loved almost every single thing, especially the surroundings, the staff, and the comfort. Only a couple of little disappointments: the coffee maker and the clock in our room did not work. Also, although the beds are comfy, the blanket was not.(strange material). A rather big disappointment was trying to have breakfast both at very pretty areas both […] inside & out. I arrived late to this establishment expecting to have an experience befitting a hotel rated so highly, priced as it was, and having touted the comfort of the bed. You see for the most part I believe that a hotel is largely as good as its beds – we are after all sleeping over at a place which is not our own. In reflection, the bed was the largest disappointment […] of my brief stay. The sheets were almost hard and the bedding (duvet) was rough and slightly itchy. That notwithstanding, the parking was very expensive and for the price the valet was a bit aggressive about a tip! Living in Vegas by way of New England (where tipping is an art), the rule of thumb is this: If you have to pay for Valet, a very modest tip is in order – if however, Valet is complimentary, you tip about what parking would have cost up to about $10. Evidently, the Valet in this luxury hotel destination did not get that memo… I will not stay again, nor do I recommend this establishment unless you get the accommodations for free, or at a massively discounted rate. We enjoyed our week in Del Mar and our accomodations at L'Auberge. Great service, friendly staff, delicious food and poolside cocktails. This was a beautiful family vacation!

Enjoyed our stay and would stay there again for sure. However, we had a problem with noise below our room with a service door that slammed continuously during an outdoor function. When we called about it, they were VERY accommodating and moved us to another (even upgraded) room.

we went to this hotel for our babymoon. one of the best hotels in san diego. it has privacy, luxury and a beach 100 feet down a private lane.

This hotel was one of the few that allowed us to stay one night over Memorial day weekend. It turned out to be nearly perfect. The location is great, with direct access to a beautiful beach with a park and shops and restaurants. They do charge extra resort fees and valet fees (you have to valet your car) that are not included in your price, but it was […] nothing extravagant. The only thing I would caution against is it is a very popular place for weddings. The day we arrived they were having one and it was difficult to maneuver around them in the lobby and of course the reception went into the night. The hotel is small and most of the rooms face the central outdoor area where the reception takes place. The day we left there were two weddings scheduled. So it can get a little noisy and as a result, we weren't able to keep our balcony door open when we went to sleep that night. But other than that, it is a great place for families or a romantic getaway. Leer más

Everything in the hotel was spectacular. I will say that coming from a non-beach location, when I read that it's "on the beach" and "Ocean Views" I incorrectly assumed I could go out of my room and onto the sand along with hearing the waves from the patio. This is in fact not the case and I guess it's my ignorance...basically this doesn't exist; my […] fault; the beach was a short walk down stairs, across a couple of streets...just a few hundred yards. Everything about the hotel was excellent.

Every single staff member I met was knowledgeable and eager to please. We will be back some day.

This hotel was perfect-beautiful room with small deck overlooking the ocean and the common areas-the bar, the lobby, the restaurant were designed perfectly to my taste. The staff was attentive and friendly, remembering our faces and asking questions that pertained to information we had given them earlier. Maybe it was just that the rate was given to […] us through hotels.com but our room, as beautiful as it was, was very obviously designed for wheelchair access. Everything was low and had rails. I didn't find that inconvenient but just thought it was odd. Also, they charge you daily for usage of pool, fitness rooms and other common areas. They will also charge you separately for parking every day but it's not difficult to find parking along some of the residential roads near the beach. We went during the week so it may be a different story on the weekends. My one complaint is the woman who answered the phone did NOT know how to give us directions to get to the hotel and we ended up driving over 50 minutes out of our way before we got there. that was frustrating! Everything about this hotel was great. Great neighborhood with a lot of shops and restaurants. The only negative was that Hotels.com failed to inform me that the Hotel would charge an additional $12.00 per night for a resort fee.

Overall I very much enjoyed my stay, the one thing that bothered me was the $25 fee per day for the valet that I did not see listed on this site or the hotel's site before checking in. I stayed in the hotel by myself for two nights. The hotel is very nice, set below the main road for a secluded feel. There are many restaurants and stores within walking […] distance. When you walk in the main entrance you are treated to views through the lobby over the pool deck to the ocean and, if you get there at the right time, the sunset beyond. I reserved the resort king and was given a room on the second floor overlooking the parking lot (yuck!). After asking for a more private and quiet room I was moved to the third floor to a room with a fireplace and a large shared balcony with an ocean view. The balcony is shared by 4 rooms, but I don't think there was anyone in the other rooms. I have a full ocean view if I walk over to the railing farthest from my room. That's good enough for me. Staff was friendly and helpful. I didn't eat in the restaurants - expensive and fancy resort foods. I did get a couple of drinks from the bar that I then took to my room to enjoy. TV had only basic channels with pay options for movies, music and games. Bed was large and comfy. Wireless internet access throughout the hotel was handy. There is also a jack for wired access at the desk in the room. No bathtub in the room, but the shower was a large sauna type with glass walls and a marble bench for sitting inside. The provided hair dryer was better than most hotel provided models (I have very thick hair so that's a concern). Their is a Keurig one cup coffee maker and the provided coffee was very good. It would be nice to have a tea option provided as well, but no such luck. There was decaf though. Mini bar is pretty well stocked, but expensive ($30 for a small bottle of cabernet!). We just had a wonderful trip to Del Mar and L'Auberege was one of the main reasons for our enjoyment - beautiful hotel in an excellent location. The lobby, deck, and hotel restaurants were picture perfect. We really enjoyed the outside fireplaces and tasty sangria. I never wanted to leave!
