Hotel Derek Houston Galleria

Cuando llegué a recepción me dijeron que me habían cambiado el tipo de habitación, ya que por política lo podían hacer. Después de media hora de alegar pude lograr que cumplieran lo que contraté. El estacionamiento es un robo, cobran veinte dólares por noche más tax.

lo unico que no me gusto fue que acepten animales, en el cuarto de junto tenian un perro que no dejo de ladrar toda la noche sugiero que los cuartos con animales esten en un solo piso por que es muy molesto estar oyendo un perro junto

I really thought this was a great location and was impressed with the service. The Valet parking only is a slight disadvantage but a common ocurrence in the Galeria area.

They just forgot to wake me up. This can´t happen at a hotel with this category and price. Manager was not available and I was late for my meeting. Won´t come back

Not bad... Not Great... I really have no way to describe it.... The Service was mediocre at best... The Location was GREAT!

I am from Houston, born and raised. My boyfriend and I live in Tampa, FL now and we just flew in to Houston for the weekend because it was my step mother's 50th birthday surprise party and we wanted to stay discrete. My dad puts all of his clients up at Hotel Derek, he has hosted his Christmas parties there as well, AND paid for all attendees to stay […] there. For years. So of course, we stayed there. MISERABLE! The customer service was awful, and that's me being polite. I called them to have their courtesy van come pick us up from the Galleria 40 minutes before we had to go to the surprise party and they quoted us "15 minutes" for the van to be there. We waited in the windy cold for 25 minutes, I called them twice and they told me "he should be there soon" and finally it got to 30 minutes and we just took a taxi. We BARELY made the surprise party, and actually my step mom saw my boyfriend running to the room because he had gone to park the car and was running in. She didn't put two and two together immediately but she said later it gave her a little indication. So their misquoted time nearly caused us to ruin the entire reason we were staying there. Then, there were like 10,000 birds outside chirping all night in trees about even with the 5th floor and when we complained, they took 40 minutes to get back to us with an "empty room" and even then WE had to call back down, they never returned our call!!! They gave us the room DIRECTLY ACROSS THE HALL!!! Then we could of course still hear them, and so I marched downstairs in my nightie and only then did they promptly give us a key to a room on the 11th floor. We slept for a few hours then went back to our original room to pack up. As we were about to leave, a stern knock came on our door. When we opened it they demanded to see our driver's licenses because they "didn't have record of stay" AND they brought some body guard with them, I presume in the event they had to drag us out of the hotel. You'll love a lot of things about this hotel, but what I love most about it, is that it makes you feel as though you're "in the place to be" in Houston. Their lobby area restaurant is seemingly one of the hottest attractions in the area, and you're bound to see some local "in crowd" dining there, just to be seen! Had a very nice stay and the bartender in the lounge (Mike) was awesome. Will make it my first call next time.

A great and elegant hotel for the price. Definitely not over-priced and ostentatious like some "quality" hotels tend to be. Would definitely stay again.

I was disappointed. The hotel goes for trendy and chic but misses the mark. Furniture is not terribly comfortable and the room is small for the price.

This is a great hotel that I stay at when in Houston on business. Great location and love the service. However, for the first time I had a BAD experiance with one of the staff. At check-in, a young man by the name of "DEREK", ironic at the least, was the rudest person that I have experianced in a long time. other that that, a great hotel.

Convenience location, excellent customer service, bathroom's need some updates, very clean room's.

Great place if you can get a good rate. Nice location even though it is acros teh street from teh Galleria. Certainly not an easy walk (you would take your life in hand) to the mall adn other resturants. Ask for a back room or one higher up as the hotel does sit, almost literally, on the service road. interstate and another major street. Everything I needed was in the area...stores, coffee shops, mall shopping, jogging trails, park, a variety of places to eat, good service, friendly workers. The only drawback that was a little unexpected is that to park in the hotel it is madatory valet parking at a rate of 20 plus dollars a night. I feel this should be a option, not an expense. Stayed at Hotel Derek over the weekend of Jan 13, 2012. Although it is a nice hotel, I probably wouldn't stay there again. For one thing, the traffic is horrible at that intersection. Secondly, there is no courtesy drink service in the lobby except water. There is a coffee maker in the room, but it is barely adequate if you want a big cup of coffee […] with half and half in the morning. Thirdly, it was extremely noisy - there were loud people wandering the halls at 3 a.m. on our floor. On the plus side, it is very close to the Westheimer/River Oaks shopping centers and the Galleria. I think next trip to Houston, I would stay downtown or further east away from the crazy Galleria/ 610 traffic. Leer más

My family and I stayed on 1/14/12 at this hotel. We were accommodated at a 2 double bed room and the room was of a good size and well appointed. The bathroom also was modern and of good size. We have a 9-month old baby and an infant crib was provided for our stay. I agree with prior reviews it gets tricky at times to drive in/out of the hotel as it […] is right on the intersection of Westheimer and I-610 (I think it's just a fact of life). I also paid the $20 valet service with in/out privileges and the price is average for the area. I would recommend this hotel as we were overall pleased with the hotel, services and the staff. This was a very nice hotel. The workers were all very kind and ready to help in whatever we needed. I would stay again.

Hotel only has valet parking service. No self-park. Valet stand could not find car on morning of check out. Asked me to assist in locating keys on valet board among dozens of other sets. Very frustrating experience.

Difficult to get out of the hotel because it is on a very busy intersection (unless you are going north). Only bad experience was the pain of the card key not working when I first went to the room. Otherwise experience was ok but nothing special.

this stay was a very special event for us it was the first day the sun was to come up on the year 2012, at first i was a little disappointed because we were only on the forth floor that faced the parking garage, but the desk manage Derick (go figure) understood the situation and was able to get us a room on the 14th floor and it was just what was needed […] the sun came up on the year 2012 and we were able to expeirence it. parking is very expensive. $20 to park your car is a lot. The valet's did a great job on a busy New Year's Eve. The food was not great. Must compliment the staff though, in person all were very helpful and accommodating.

Had a great time. Nice view, romantic rooms and a great location. We were very pleased.

The hotel was really nice and comfortable. The only problem was the location of the hotel it was almost impossible to get in and out of the hotel parking lot due to the traffic in this area.

I paid for the a room upgrade to a suite and was not impressed. The room lacked painting in some areas and was missing decor in others. I have stayed at lesser starred hotels and received more space and better decor. Definitely not what I expected from this hotel in regards to room size, freshness, and decor

The hotel is very nice, comfortable bed, fabulous fitness center, good restaurant and good staff. Though the location is very convenient, it cannot get away from the constant highway noise of Loop 610. I would recommend the location for convenience and comfort, but always with the disclaimer about the noise.

only had one small issue. Hotels.com quoted my pet fee as $30 dollars and when I was checking in, the front desk lady told me it was $50. I explained to her what hotels.com quoted me at and she did not want to waive the fee until I argued my point very strongly. We were only staying at the hotel from 11pm- noon the next day, so I thought 50 was a bit […] much. She then came back later and waived the entire pet fee. It was a very nice hotel and I love the room, but didnt like that valet parking was my only option and also I didnt like that it was hard to enter the hotel with all the traffic on westhiemer

Yes, it can get a little expensive if you order room service all the time like I did, but besides that the room was really nice, the service was great, and the location could not be better.

Nice hotel but it would be nice to have the option to park my own car. $20 for valet parking just so I don't have to walk a little is a bit much. I won't be booking here again.

- Front desk was not accommodating - Hotel room stench of cigarettes though I was put on the non-smoking floor - Walls are paper thin and I could hear people talk, play loud music and smoked (yes smoked!) in the next room. - No complimentary breakfast - Charged me twice on my credit card

This was my second visit to the Derek. The first time there was New Years eve in 2007 when my now husband proposed to me in the hotel. We revisited on our last night of our recent trip to Houston to revisit that most wonderful memory. Sadly we only had one night again this trip. Hope to be able to stay again in the future. i was put in room with a king size bed. my reservation was for double beds. had to move after checking in. overall it was very pleasant.

This wasn't a very good experience for me this time. I had a two night booking and had to change rooms each night of my stay. The provisional bill had overcharged my my $260 over two nights. I'm never a fan of valet parking being the only option at a hotel and this has not changed my mind!

The hotel was a perfect place to have a romantic night away. The staff was super friendly. The beds were so super comfy. We will be back!
