Me gusto mucho el hotel,bien ubicado en muy buen estado de concervacion. Lo recomiendo ampliamente.

esta en el centro de san francisco se me hizo bien ubicado muy cerca todo si lo recomiendo y si volveria a llegar ahi,cerca del embarcadero cerca del estadio de los giants ,cerca de centro comercial

Hotel muy centrico, lástima que en sus alrededores este lleno de vagabundos. Es un hotel antiguo pero con encanto, lo único que las habitaciones para 4 son un poco pequeñas.

Very good location, the maintenance is average, and the service is below average. The location compensates the bad things.

Hotel muy bonito, de estilo antiguo. La habitación amplia y las cámadas cómodas. Para entrar a la habitación había que traspasar la salida de emergencia y eso era raro. Lo mejor, la atención del personal y la ubicación del hotel (para conocer SFC).

The hotel itself is fine, though I thought its overnight parking rates were exorbitant. Why I would not stay there again or recommend it to others is because of its location.It is at the wrong end of Market street and the neighbourhood and its denizens made me feel decidedly unsafe. (I have never felt that in any other part of the world).

The hotel was beautiful and the peop[le seamed generally interested in help its customers. But the resturant in the hotel left a lot to be desired. Thank god for close resturants outside.

Stayed there last week, choose it over hotels at union square for its great prices. Overall it did not disappoint for room is decent enough, though not superb. Hotel staff aren't really friendly especially the concierge lady. Its a 12-15 minutes walk, one BART stop to union square shopping area, which is a plus point. The surrounding neighborhood […] is terrible however. Tons of homeless people roam the street. Not advisable for people to stay out late and go out alone. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Only one elevator out of four in service during my stay. Few clerks at registration desk in spite of long line waiting. Very slow broadband. No bathtub and no coffee maker in room.

The hotel is so rich and full of soul and history. The staff was superb, the room was quiet and clean and authentically preserved. The rate was affordable and I'd go back anytime

Wow! The Hotel Whitcomb is old, but plush! I was a solo female traveler and found the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is a little sketchy, but I was never uncomfortable or afraid. This would have to be the the best place to stay for the remarkable(!) New Year's Eve Shows @ The Bill Graham! In the hotel, I loved the ornate lobby […] with rich carved wood trim, brass elevator doors, crystal chandeliers... My room was small,but comfy, and had an enormous bathroom. The best part for me was the long hallway with plush carpet leading from the elevator to my door. I always took my shoes off to walk it when returning, feeling like royalty coming home. A great hotel but if your a light sleeper this may not be the place for you. Can pretty much hear everything which goes on from the hallway. I had an issue of slamming doors and a group of young tourists coming and going with their chatting.

Terrible place. Dirty room. Service was ok and employees nice, but the structure is too old (not historic, old!!) and bad mantained. Also, they charged the entire amount upfront and did not allow me to leave the hotel earlier! The location is also very bad, as this is one of the worst areas of San Francisco Downtown. Had my 40th b-day weekend in the City on Sat. 12/17/11 and had a night on the town. Liked the history and design of this hotel. The grand lobby past tthe reservation desk seemed un-used and was really neat. It was my First time here and my friends had stayed here before. Pretty nice hotel and loved the hallways and doors to the elevators, felt like […] I was in a old horror movie. Sort of creepy but sort of hip. Hotel wasd clean and quite nice, however, as a woman traveling alone, the sketchy neighborhood mad it quite confining. I picked it partly because it was walking distance from where I was working that weekend..It was not safe to do so given the surrounding area. Parking was really ecpensive at the hotel and inflexible. I ended up having to pay parking […] both at the hotel and where I was working. Hotel restaurant was bleak and out of many menu items. I had to settle for this hotel because most of the other hotels in the area were fully booked in December. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. It was overpriced given it's condition, amenities, and location. The staff were friendly enough, but don't expect much else.

Live a little history of San Francisco, old fixtures, marble everywhere, halls a little worn, Star Bucks right there, trolley & Bart stations right there....try not to walk until you get to Powell & Market. Good central location...safe. Enjoy

Bad location. No outlet for laptop. Bed too close to desk. Not enough room. Heater not very hot. TV old. Rundown overall.

Service was great, location was good for public transportation... I just needed a better bed. Otherwise a perfect room.

Dont be fooled by the closeness to the commercial district. The hotel is In one of the scariest area of SF - surrounding streets are replete with homeless people and adult cinemas. Our room was filthy - the curtain had a layer of dust that suggests that it has never been cleaned. Window was not in place and cold air came in. One of the best locations in SF, perfect for MUNI/BART connections, directly across the street from Sam's Cafe for a good breakfast (the hotel is too pricey for that simple meal) and an adjacent, very busy, Starbucks. The mattress had dips and damage that made it like sleeping on misplaced bricks--very uncomfortable bed and shabby, old linens, paper […] thin towels. The staff were friendly, but, the parking was expensive (no self-parking available) and getting your car took some patience (they don't bring it up when you call, but when you get to the garage.) This used to be a Ramada, and has not been updated since the 70's, which is regrettable, because it's a beautiful, historic building in a convenient location. Leer más

The rooms are small, but comfortable and clean. The electricity in my bathroom didn't work and they fixed it immediately. The hotel staff, Chef Larry, Larry the door guy, Willie the late door guy, ALL where fabulous and fun. Hop on the BART down to the cable cars and go all over town. I think this hotel is placed in a good location for a business stay. But for vacation, I don't recommend it.

I always stay at the Whitcomb. I love it's convenience to Muni which takes me to the places I like to frequent. Its also very easy to get to from all freeways which is nice. The hotel is beautiful although it's old and therefore isn't modern in some respects. The wifi doesn't work very well at all (no matter which room I have stayed in) and the walls […] are paper-thin. The hotel has massive ceilings, marble columns, crystal chandeliers and a great ambiance hailing back to its heyday. It has been well enough maintained and has a lot more character than anything else in the 3.5 star category, but it is showing its age and could use an overhaul. The BART is 10m to the door of the hotel and will take you to the airport […] in 30mins for $8 and downtown in 5mins for $2. Street cars pass by as well as lots of cabs on buses on Market St. You can walk to Union Square in 10-15 minutes, lots of restaurants and basic shopping nearby. This hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin and you can end up in a dodgy part of town if you aren't paying attention, but by the same token, you could find an amazing hole in the wall restaurant. Worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Worst neighborhood. Dangerous in fact. No room service on Mondays. Restaurant closed on Mondays. It felt like I was in the movie The Shining or Barton Fink and we know how those both ended. I was desperate as was big conference in town. Never again. I can forgive a lot but no hot water and smoke alarms going off outside […] my door at 3 am as the batteries were dead is not something the business traveler can forgive. A Mouse ran thru my room 1st night. I told them and they did NOTHING. It's not as quiet. The Bath Tub wasn't even cleaned. Hairs and grimes was on the wall.. on both nights.

The hotel markets itself being 5 blocks away from Union Square. This is misleading at a minimum and simply untrue. It is clse to double that distance and is located in a very rough part of town and I was scared for my safety each time I walked back to the hotel in the evening. Walking back from my conference near Union Square was a bit entertaining. A lot of certifiably crazy people, being asked for change every 50 feet, and what seemed like people high on drugs, I would not recommend the hotel if you are going to be doing any walking in the evening or at night. Would not recommend the hotel for business travelers- poor neighborhood, and service at the hotel is poor

Convenient location, but be prepared...many many homeless and kinda crazy people call the surrounding neighborhood home. Union square is a short walk or bus ride away and there's a Starbucks in the lobby. We were disappointed the hotel doesnt have room service and at one point one 1 of 4 elevators worked. It is an older hotel and we were excited to stay in a historic place. The hotel is in a bad neighborhood. The lobby is nice, very pretty. The rooms are in need of repair. Some of the calking of the tile was 3 inches wide to hold tile on, the tile did not match, the wallpaper is ripped in places. The carpet was stained even wet in places. Noisy from […] outside noise. Parking was outrageous. The hotel owns their own garage and charged $35 a day, that was more than we paid for the rental car. Free WiFi was nice. Staff were very nice. I could not recommend this hotel to friends. I wish I could. We were with another couple and they agree with the comments I made. I would give it a 2 start rating out of 5 stars. Stay somewhere else. We are from the small mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona, so I wanted an impressive hotel for my daughters and I that we could afford. The Whitcome fit the bill. We really felt like we were some place special with the hotels elegance in old style decor. The restaurant in the hotel was beautiful with a cozy fireplace and gormet food. The concierge was […] particularly helpful. Even the securitiy, and bell hops had good recomendations for us. Our room was comfortable and quiet. Our theater, The Orphum, was acorss the street and the BART entrance right out the front door. We were advised to not walk around the area at night, so we took public transportation.
