No complaints at all about this place except one--and for me it's a big one. I need my coffee and it's very difficult to get here. Sure, you can sit down to a meal at the restaurant and order it, but I need it in my room, first thing. I can't recall ever staying in a place where there wasn't some sort of coffee/tea service in the room. So you have to […] venture out a couple of blocks to one of the cafes, which are only open until early afternoon & closed Sunday, or walk several blocks to the Starbucks. Well I would definitely start off by saying I wouldn't stay at this hotel again. The rooms and hotel look old and run down. Internet didn't work the 1st 3 days we were there. The bed was very uncomfortable!!!! The water literally trickled out of the shower. We asked for a room with a view when we booked, and we got a view of a fire escape/enclosed with […] absolutely no view. Our remote to the tv had no batteries. Parking was expensive and then they taxed it, and they added gratuity to the bill, while we had been tipping each day. Just overall very disatisfied. This is one of the few building to withstand the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. It has been restored to something like its original condition, so if you are looking for a step into the past, it is a comfortable choice. Wonderful place to stay, great history behind the city's survival, ask a local. Wonderful service at the bar. I forget my bartender's name at this point but maybe thats why he was so good! great location and a short walk to fun and good eats

We were drawn to this hotel because of its history and we were not disappointed. We loved the old furnishings and touches, however all but one of the staff we dealt with seemed disinterested and unfriendly.

If you comfort upgrade to a King suite room. All the other rooms are too small for a large family.

I booked a queen and they ended up giving me 2 twin beds...not a romantic getaway anymore...I paid more for a better room and got a cheaper room.. they never tried to accomadate me with a better room..

For as old as this hotel is, it is very well maintained and spotlessly clean. It has an interesting history, especially the list of well-known guest residents. I would stay again.

Me and my girlfriend had a great time at the Majestic. The room was very comfortable and classy. The location made it very easy to get around, it was just a 15-20 minute walk to union square and from there you can get any where with the cable cars, and other public transportation. I higly recommend the Majestic.

The only reason I gave this hotel a 2 is because of the kitchen and bar staff, good service. The hotel staff and desk is a firm 1, I notified the front dest 3 times that the toilet in my room did not flush, nothing was done. Not a fan of the hotel Majestic...

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Magestic. I is a vintage hotel, but with remodeled rooms. I has a certain classic charm to it. It has a friendly staff and is well maintained. It is about four blocks for Japantown, in one direction and other areas with stores and restaurants in the other direction. Also about four blocks to the nearest east-west […] bus line. The rooms are charming in the sense that many of the original features are preserved and you get a glimpse into classic hotels of the past. The sour part of my stay was the linens are old and worn. The bed mattresses were old but just ok in terms of comfort. If you are looking for old time charm and you feel the price is right, go for it.

The service is outstanding and friendly. The ambiance is truly that of the hotels of long ago. The furnishings remind you of old world opulence, right down to the elevator. The room itself could use a carpet and upholstry cleaning but that did not detract from its statliness. Rates for the stay were reasonable. Bathroom was small but appointed. Hotel […] gives customer choice of "going Green". Parking was a problem the first night but was secured for the second night at a price. Definitely a place to relax and unwind. Breakfast with table linens, hot delicious entrees, endless coffee,and amicable staff was an excellent way to start our day. Lounge closes early weeknights so be sure to come in early to view their reknowned butterfly collection. We will stay here again. Leer más

The hotel was very convenient and the room was a reasonable size (the bathroom was big!). Although being an older hotel provides some charm (the four-post bed was a cool novelty) I found the hotel to be pretty rundown. The lift didn't always work (the door wouldn't close), one of my bed lamps flickered and looked electrically unsafe, the hairdryer didn't […] work, the air conditioner was temperamental. The Hotel Majestic was very quiet and quaint in atmosphere, which I really liked. It had a restaurant for breakfast and dinner, a bar (happy hour). It was within walking distance to other eatiries, if desired. The staff was very congenial and efficient. They went out of their way to be helpfull. Valet parking was most appreciated because street parking […] is almost non-existent without getting a high-priced ticket or have vehicle towed away, resulting in more money. Old hotel that has been upgraded, but is showing some wear. Nice location away from the hustle of downtown. Our room did not have a closet, but a rather small and beaten up wardrobe. We stayed here one night and would recommend it for short stays. Beyond that, the nature of an old school hotel could get a bit tiring.

The room was on the 2nd floor overlooking the sidewalk and there was car traffic all night as well as passersby who spoke loudly on their cell phones. Most disturbingly, the shower had a huge clump of long black hair that someone apparently threw onto the shower wall where it dried up and stuck to the wall. The shabby room and bathroom were disappointing […] but something I could have put up with for 2 nights but the noise level and the disgusting shower made me leave after the the first night. (I had requested a room change but was advised by the front desk that the entire hotel was booked through the week and that they would not move me to another room). I found the Majestic a very attractive, clean and pleasant hotel. Good service by courteous employees. Rather convenient for opera goers, but the return walk is a rather strenuous uphill climb a good deal of the way! One complaint would be boards surrounding the bottom of the beds on all sides caused me to bang my toes against them, and it took a while […] to learn to approach the bed slowly and carefully. Hotel is within walking distance of many restaurants. It is a short bus ride or cab ride away from union square/BART. hotel itself was quaint and comfortable. upside was wonderful, helpful staff, charming hotel. downsize was no air conditioning (which isn't necessary most of the year). we had a nice breeze by opening the windows, however, there is some […] street noise. overall, I would recommend this hotel for its affordability, location, and charm. look forward to staying there again! Really bad service. Very rude staff. Poorly maintained accommodation for example really old and squeaky bed, old shower.

Plus all the fussy features look a bit dirty if you look too closely Very small rooms compared to others in the states but fine for a couple of nights you get what you pay for!

A very nice older hotel. Not close to the sights of the city. There are plenty of bus routes nearby. They say the hotel is haunted by a young woman. Her picture hangs by the front desk.

As a non-business guest, I loved the Hotel Majestic's quaint decor, luxuriously comfortable beds and clean rooms. A frequent traveler, I wanted something off the beaten path and as unique as the city of San Francisco itself. I found everything I wanted at the Hotel Majestic. Hotel Majestic has a long history - it was built before the San Francisco fire in 1906 and has the reputation as the longest operating hotel in the area. It's known for it's Victorian style and is rumored to have a friendly ghost which haunts the 4th floor. I stayed on the 4th floor and am disappointed to say I was not visited by the famous apparition. An older hotel, the building has no central air conditioning system - not a problem considering the temperate climate of the area. The elevator is a bit quirky, but I didn't find the stairs a problem. The hotel is within an easy distance to local transportation and some nice restaurants. Shuttle service is available - but not free and must be reserved in advance. The Majestic boasts a restaurant and bar which serves breakfast and dinner. I had a delicious muffin and coffee for breakfast but had already made plans to eat elsewhere during my stay. The service was friendly and the dinner menu looked comparable in price and menu to area restaurants. I would definitely stay at the Hotel Majestic on future trips. Leer más

Checking in at the shop-worn front desk I wondered if I'd made a mistake. The elevator to the room was slow and scuffed. The hallway was not musty, but looked like it should be. My husband and I are from the East Bay and wanted to stay one night in the city without spending an arm and a leg. We wanted a clean and safe place to stay. The Majestic provided us with just what we were looking for. it is definitely historic, which I actually liked, although it could be updated a tab, the stafff was friendly and helpful. rather well worn , in need of total renovation. wood in entrance porch rotting -not a very good welcome . had two rooms , with friends, in both the wardrobe doors didn't shut - we found a dirty pair of socks in the drawer our friends found several pairs of dirty knickers in their room . Neither of the rooms had been properly cleaned . we were offerred […] a round of drinks free as compensation & also manged to get our valet parking for free . Although we were told there were no altermative rooms available our friends were moved the next day "because of problems withy their sink" they were unaware of any problem . We weren't moved & when we asked the front desk we were basically told if we didn't like it we could leave -with no refund for the two nights outstanding on our stay. Basically very rude , on several occasions walking away to "work" during our conversations although we saw no evidence of him doing any work. Would not recommend to my worst enemy !! Leer más

If you are into historic hotels and a historic feel then this is your place. However this once beautiful landmark is in need of a renovation. My room was clean as far as bathroom and not fearing being bitten by bugs, but wallpaper was pealing off every wall, furniture was old and worn, halls and stairs had not been vacuumed in months and were very dirty. […] Thier elevator was broken so the climb to the 4th floor was not fun. For a one day stay on our wedding anniversary, this was perfect. Room was clean, comfortable and cozy. Not big by todays standards, but the room was used well. Staff was professional, courteous and prompt. Right on the edge of Japantown. We would definitely stay here again.
