Holiday Inn Golden Gateway

Si van a viajar desde el SFO en metro no les recomiendo bajarse en Civic Center, no es un área muy bonita ni muy segura. Es mejor ir hasta Union Square y tomar un camión hasta el hotel. Por las avenidas California y Van Ness pasan muchas rutas que te llevan a todas partes de San Francisco...

I was Driving my car from Toronto, to LA. On the way I stayed at about 7 hotels. out of all, this was unsatisfactory to the extend to spend time in writing this. when I booked, the web site wanted to know whether I need breakfast. I said yes.( additional price involved- I said ok)The web site asked how many guest. I said 4. After reaching counter, […] the staff said they would provide breakfast for 2 only and we have to pay for the other 2 members of our family. The coffee in room was not enough for 4. The staff refused to send the 2 breakfast to room. There was no coffee in front reception lobby. Car park was charged $ 48 for one day. This is much higher than surrounding area. A large hotel with garage, but at the higher room rates and garage fees. Security is cumbersome and annoying. Room was clean and comfortable, but small and, even though 11 stories up, noisy from the street traffic. Breakfast OK, but average in content and quality. Basically, an average hotel with higher than average rates.

We needed a hotel near an event venue in San Francisco and the Holiday Inn fit the bill perfectly. It was an easy walk to the event at the Regency Ball Room .The staff was friendly, and helpfully supplied us with maps and a list of eateries within walking distance of the hotel. Nothing fancy just a regular hotel wit regular normal rooms I expected a little more since it is San Francisco, we had to pay like 30 dollars for parking. But overall it was ok

This hotel is your average hotel, overall suitable to stay in for sure. The only thing our room didn't have was curtains, perhaps it was just that one room. The location is really great, just behind Pold Street, very artsy, lots of pubs, shops and things to do within all walking distance. You're one block away from the trolley cars too. Surprised at how nice this hotel was. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows, clean and quiet. It was even possible to open the window for fresh air. Did not appreciate the high ($38/night) extra charge to park on site, or the strange need to use one's room key to operate the elevator... or the under-par customer service... but the room and […] location made up for the negatives. The only think I didn't like about this property was the location. Be prepared for a long walk (on some steep hills) to Union Square or Chinatown. Fisherman's wharf you will need to take the cable cars, bus or cab.

Title sums it up: This is a good hotel (excellent staff, however) very conveniently located (depending on what you want to see and where you want to go), at a great rate. Whole Foods 1 block away has an excellent food bar for lunch or dinner.

This place is good for a one or two night stay, its in a pretty convenient location right next to a wellsfargo, starbucks, wholefoods market, and a guitar center which i liked:) Its a good place for the price considering what the other options are. DO NOT PAY FOR PARKING!! They charge $40 to park overnight. Right next to the hotel is a starbucks on […] California street, if you go up california there is a parking garage and if you get in there before 10pm its only $10 overnight. I checked in after 10pm and instead found TONS of street parking, I just had to get up around 9am to move my car for street cleaning. It was a 2 min walk to the hotel and it was free. There is street parking surrounding the hotel so I would highly reccomend that if you are parking your car after like 8pm. Leer más

This was an incredible hotel. The stay was very comfortable. Also It is located many resteraunts and bars, and one of the best sushi places I have ever eaten, sushi rock. Anyways I will gladly stay here again at the holiday inn.

Upon arrival to our room, we noticed immediately the bed was caved down the middle. Then as we took a shower later in the evening, the hot water only lasted for 5 minutes. Which was odd because the faucet had hot water up till that point. We waited another hour and a half for the water to turn luke warm before we attempted to shower again. We had no […] hot water problem the remainder of our stay. As a Priority Rewards member, we opted for late checkout (2pm). My husband took the luggage with him to the car when he left in the morning. I met with a friend for lunch without checking out since I knew I would want to clean up before leaving. As I returned after lunch, I discovered our room completely cleaned and cleared out. I was irate that they would clear out our room while i was still checked in! Who does goes through guests' rooms while they are still staying there?! I had left dried fruit, other snacks, and my prenatal vitamins in the room. None of which are cheap. I walked downstairs to the counter and they contacted the cleaning service and the maid swore nothing was in the room. The lady behind the counter indicated that I was wrong. She continued to blame me THREE TIMES that it was my fault since I didn't leave a luggage in the room to show it was still being used. Seriously? I asked for late checkout and it's not even 2pm. Then you take a pregnant woman's vitamins and snacks and then tell her she's not only lying about having food left in her room, but that she should have left her luggage to carry herself?? I couldn't even use the restroom since the room was cleaned up! We were traveling and I don't have the luxury of going to my pantry to get more vitamins or snacks. Hotel was overall excellent. Great location, very well-lighted and secure (need room card to access elevator), convenient and practical driveway that allows you to bring your car off the main Van Ness Blvd. Only problem was one desk person who gave me a hard time when I asked for a credit on 1-day's parking because we only parked a car for one day. […] I even gave him our ticket to show we only parked one night, but he would not even look at the ticket until another desk person told him that I had a ticket to prove we only parked one night. We stayed at this hotel on our honeymoon and since returning to san fran stayed again. The hotel service was great. Located near everything we needed to get to while we were in town.

Decent hotel with decent value, within walking distance to the different touristy neighborhoods (but not really *in* one of them). When we visited, the buffet we'd ordered and paid for was replaced with a served breakfast -- but still quite ok.

Not so happy when there was no WiFi. Even if they say this was a free service... they have this in their advertising and the reason why I book this hotel. Then there is no wifi the whole night and the next morning... and the manager will not even do anything when I said that I should get some sort of credit because of this. We booked the hotel because it was a 2 minute walk to the Regency Ballroom. The front desk was a little bit slow to check us is, but it seemed like they were a bit busy. You have to use your room card to operate the elevator to go up to your room, which was nice. The hotel was nice and clean, I was really satisfied. We order food down at the restaurant […] down stairs and it was delicious, we also had pizza ordered up in the evening. Details: At check-in, Anthony was extremely courteous and professional. Due to his accent, unfortunately, I believe he had stated a late check-out time of 2PM complimentary instead of the usual 12Noon. The next day we questioned ourselves at noon if it was actually noon, so we raced back to the hotel to make sure, getting there at 12:30PM. It actually […] was noon, not 2PM, but the hotel accomodated us until 1:30PM to get our things out. I made my reservation with a debit card, and was informed of the hold to be removed promptly after checkout. Its been two days since and it still shows on my bank statement. If its not gone by tomorrow, I may have to challenge the hotel and/or my bank. Overall: Good stay in a great city to visit. Being Halloween weekend, it was no surprise the level of street noise would be so audible up at the 25th floor, so be warned that if you seek silence during a weekend, this might not be the hotel for you. For the price paid, though, the room could have been much, much, much, MUCH larger. Leer más

During my two week California trip, this was the most expensive hotel in which I stayed (the others included a Comfort Inn in Santa Barbara, the Coral Sands Motel in LA, and a Days Inn in San Diego)--and, to my extreme disappointment, the only one in which the promised wireless internet rarely worked in my hotel room (2309). As a traveler planning […] parts of my trip on the fly, I considered a wireless connection that works is almost as much a necessity as a working bathroom, so this was inexcusable and is enough reason for me to recommend that other travelers expecting to have a working wireless connection in their room avoid this hotel. When I called the front desk to explain the problem, they initially directed me to call their tech number (no "We're so sorry"--simply a flat "Call extension ..."), who then told me to test the connection in the lobby to verify the connection problem was specific to my room. I did that and then told the front desk--they said I could bring my computer down to the lobby, or they could have me switch to another room in which the connection "might be better, probably," and when I suggested this was inadequate and that a working connection was part of what was promised with the room (I certainly would not have booked a stay with them otherwise), they offered me a drink or desert in the restaurant (again, not exactly helpful). I asked to speak to the manager, which happened only after I waited half an hour in the lobby and then had to ask the front desk what was going on (total time wasted attempting to solve this problem: approximately two hours). The manager, Ken, was not especially apologetic, refused to offer any kind of rate discount because a key service was not working, and claimed that since wireless internet is "complimentary," it is "not guaranteed"--to which I responded that I, and probably not many others, would book a room there if we were not promised a working wireless connection. We booked 2 nights with Holiday Inn Golden Gateway, but when we got there in the late evening, we were told there were no more rooms available. We could find other hotels ourselves, or go to a hotel they selected for us that are outside of San Francesco. No other options just had to go there. Definitely recommend this hotel if you're coming to San Francisco. The ammenties and service was excellent. Plus they have onsite parking which is sometimes hard to find in SF hotels. I would stay here again!

Hotel is in a central location not too far from most of the sites. A 20 min downhill walk to Fishermans Wharf but uphill most of the way back! Plenty of restaurants and takeaways nearby. The hotel is tired and in need of a revamp. This was part of a California road trip and was the worst hotel we stayed in. We chose The Holiday Inn Golden Gate Hotel because of it's proximity to sites we wanted to see in San Francisco, and for what I thought was a reasonable rate. That was before I learned parking was an additional $40+ per night. My fault--I should've asked ahead of time. Our room was on the 10th floor and faced Van Ness Avenue, one of the busiest streets […] in San Francisco. This might not have been a problem if the hotel had been constructed with adequate sound proofing, but as it turned out, we felt like we were sleeping ON Van Ness Avenue: loud, non-stop traffic noise, honking, sirens and yelling by homeless people across the street at a Chevron gas station fighting over who got to squeegee car windows. Our room was quite good, except for a few things that I can't quite explain: there's a table with two chairs, instead of a desk, and a mini-fridge but no microwave. I guess this hotel is really for tourists and not business travelers. I wasn't that excited about the neighborhood. It's not quite in the middle of things, tourist-spot-wise, but it's not […] a terrible walk, and certainly an easy cab ride. Location is great and the rooms were very clean! I'm impressed!

Hotel is conveniently located near all tourist attractions. The staff was very friendly and resourceful; they recommended many restaurants and attractions that were nearby. Would definitely stay here again.

It was a very nice hotel, great staff but the hallway on the 6th floor was FEEZING COLD and as a result our room was quite cold as well.

Service was good and friendly. Room was small, outlets weren't great, sink needed draino. Not a ton around there to do, but it was close to the concert I went to. Restaurant in hotel wasn't the best either...

This hotel is very nice and very convenient. It was located close to my daughter's apartment, so it was an obvious choice for us to stay here.

We chose the Holiday Inn Golden Gate for the great rate, convenient location and the fitness centre, three important criteria that we won't compromise on. The hotel is located on the corner of California and Van Ness and is at the end of a cable car line. Unfortunately, that line is under repair, so it was a little less convenient than we'd originally […] hoped. The buses, however are quite frequent and easily accessible from the hotel. We didn't have a car, nor did we miss not having one on our trip. The fitness centre is small, with a couple of bikes, three treadmills and elliptical trainer and free weights. It's open 24/7, which is good if you want a quick workout when you get up (or before you go to bed). The treadmills are good brands, but they need some maintenance. Nothing out of the ordinary for a hotel, but if you're used to a real gym, don't go as hard as you normally would. For some reason, the air conditioning was rather strong in the whole building. Which was odd, since it wasn't too warm outside, maybe 10 to 14 degrees during our stay (all numbers in centigrade). We had to crank the heat to get to 20 degrees in our room. Ask for an extra blanket. The staff was friendly and helpful, though a little confused when I'd asked to break a 10 for the bus. I guess not many guests take public transit. They also offered a quick list of restaurants and markets in the area. The Greek restaurant was quite good and filling, some of the others weren't so great. The Whole Foods market is nice to pick up some fruits and juice to keep in your room (which had a refrigerator, bonus!). Our room was clean, and despite being on the 23rd floor, you will hear the sirens, which is probably true for just about any SF hotel. Corridors are a little dim, and they could use a bit of freshening up, but it's far from a deal breaker. The area is a mixed bag, depending on where you're coming from. Van Ness seems to be a big divider for the have and have not areas, at least near the hot Leer más

The hotel is within walking distance to almost everything. The staff was courtious but the resturant was waaaayyyy over priced. Most of the neighboring eateries only accept cash - warning, but don't always post it in plain sight.
